                             BRIDGE TO HEALING;

                   Gesher Lemarpeh: Metziat Koach Lehitmoded im Machalah

           "A  hole in the body produces a greater hole in the soul." - Yiddish Saying

     A sudden and scary diagnosis throws you off balance and transports you on an express train from the land of the well to the land of the sick. Overwhelmed by confusion and fear, you follow the detour sign off your life paths into the unfamiliar labyrinth of medical treatment. Chemo and radiation schedules take over daily life, with side effects that create challenges on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. It is like stumbling into a vast wilderness without a map, iPhone, or working GPS. You realize that you have been kidnapped by a terrorist named “Illness.”

     Millions of ordinary people are struck unexpectedly, as illness plays no favorites in attacking all age, socioeconomic, ethnic, and religious groups. When this happened to me, I realized that sustaining my spirits would be a daily challenge. I scrambled to find inner and outer resources to avoid sinking into a depressed victim-like state. I desperately needed a map, a guide, and a repertoire of spiritual coping tools and connections to help navigate this difficult territory and weather the illness storm. Intuitively, I gathered tools and began creating a down-to-earth spiritual toolbox out of the wisdom of many traditions.

     Bridge to Healing helps provide the “medicine” that will close the hole in the soul that physical malady inevitably creates. It will equip you with many resources and help you find the strength to cope with illness.

Bridge to Healing

“Bridge To Healing” is one of the most inspiring journeys through personal illness I have read in years. I cannot imagine anyone who will not benefit from the practical methods that psychotherapist Israela Meyerstein devised to survive and thrive following her encounter with cancer. It is also a work of great compassion, for it will lighten the burden of illness not only for the sufferer, but also for those who care for them.

Larry Dossey, M.D

Israela’s story is both riveting and uplifting. Israela enables readers to trust her as their guide.

Read on and learn from the wisdom of the sages and ages that you are not a diagnosis or a statistic. You are a survivor.

Dr. Bernie S. Siegel

We can overcome the many challenging aspects of cancer when we step outside the limits of disease-centered medicine (where the heart is seen as a pump) and enter the realm of individualized, human-centered medicine (where the heart connects with the spirit). Israela’s book, “Bridge To Healing”, is the roadmap to get there.

Peter Hinderberger, M.D., Ph.D, DI Hom

Israela shows readers how spirituality can bring renewed strength and positive hope for the future. Follow her journey and you, too, will find renewed strength to cope and heal!

Rabbi Dr. Tsvi G. Schur
